Habitat for Humanity – Lima Area: Coronavirus Response
September 7, 2020
Our staff continues to closely monitor the Coronavirus / COVID-19, and we continue to work to protect you, our staff, volunteers, Habitat partner families, and the community for which we deeply care. I'm writing today to update the next steps our affiliate is taking. Overall, we continue to comply with all State of Ohio guidelines.
This is an increasingly difficult time for people, businesses, and organizations all across the country and our community. As a nonprofit that relies entirely on the support of others, please know we are making these difficult decisions prayerfully—but we need your help. Here are the protective measures we are enacting today:
Habitat Offices
Here's what we're doing:
Our staff offices are closed to the public for the time being.
Our staff will be available and actively working both in the office and remotely, replying to phone calls, voicemails, and emails during this time. Any scheduled meetings are being evaluated on an individual basis.
Committee meetings will be held as planned, but virtually – either by conference call or video.
Here's how you can help us:
We urgently need your financial support. As businesses throughout our community are impacted by closures, so are many Habitat homeowners who make their family's living in the service industry. These families will certainly be concerned about continuing to make their mortgage payments. We are committed to working with each family during this uncertain time, but we need your financial support to sustain us in that. Please consider any financial support possible and click here to give a gift online or see other ways to give. When you give, you'll help us do more to help them.
Habitat ReStore in Lima
Here's what we're doing:
The ReStore in Lima is now open to the public Thursdays & Fridays from 10-5 and Saturdays from 10-3.
Here's how you can help us:
Our truck is doing donation pickups. All items need to be outside the home or in the garage. You can schedule a pick up by going to the ReStore website and scheduling your own pick up (www.restorelima.org ) or call the ReStore at 419-222-4257.
You may drop off donations during store hours.
Habitat Volunteers
Here's what we're doing:
The Habitat ReStore is open for new and returning volunteers. We encourage volunteers in the high risk category for COVID-19 to work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when our store is closed to the public. (Based on currently available information and clinical expertise, the CDC defines HIGH RISK Categories as older adults (65 years and older) and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions.) Safety is our first priority.
Here's how you can help us:
If you feel comfortable volunteering with us, we would welcome you. We have daily screenings for all staff and volunteers, plus you will need to sign a couple of waivers as a new or returning volunteer.
Habitat Partner Families and Homeowners
Here's what we're doing:
You may continue to make your mortgage payments by mail or by calling ahead to see if office staff will be available to receive your payment at the Elm Street office.
Here's how you can help us:
Stay in touch with our staff if you have questions or concerns during this time. Call 419-222-4937 and we will be available to assist you.
Join Together in Prayer
This disease vigorously affects the most vulnerable in our communities, so please join us in praying for those who are already ill and those who may become ill. Pray for our government leaders and medical professionals. Pray for protection over our entire community and all those who come into contact with our Habitat for Humanity ministry.
